Atlantic City Ocean Casino Resort Review

ocean casino resort on boardwalk atlantic city

The Ocean Casino Resort has been our favorite resort to stay at when visiting Atlantic City. Although it’s located at the end of the boardwalk, the hotel’s beauty, size, food, and attractions make it the perfect place to stay when visiting Atlantic City with your family. In this blog, we’ll discuss our experience staying at the hotel, everything the hotel has to offer, and why you should consider it when visiting with your family.

Check-in at the Ocean Casino Resort

Check-in at the Ocean Casino Resort has always been a bit…bumpy during our stays.

During our first stay, we paid full price for our room. The hotel is advertised as a 5-star hotel but we were given a room that was way below the standard of a 5-star hotel (more on this below). We went down to the lobby and asked for a different room. After receiving our new room key, we went back upstairs to find that the maid had not finished cleaning it.

After lugging our bags and our two young kids back down to the lobby a third time, we decided it was time to speak to the manager. I must say, the manager was extremely professional and provided extraordinary customer service. She escorted us to our third room to make sure there were no issues and presented us with a $75 resort credit for our troubles.

Check-in this time was stressful because the online booking process was unclear and the employee checking us in was impatient and difficult. Here’s a few tips to help you avoid the same issues:

  • At the time of booking, if the system gives you a final price and asks for your credit card information before you hit submit, this does not mean your credit card is being charged.
  • Resort and tourism fees are charged at check-in. If you have free rooms, and those are your only fees, your card will NOT be charged at booking.
  • Check to make sure you receive a confirmation after booking.
  • Check your credit card statement after booking so you know exactly what, if anything, you paid for at the time of booking.

The Rooms at the Ocean Casino Resort

If you Google Ocean Casino Resort, you’ll see that Google describes it as a 5-star hotel; however, the rooms can sometimes resemble a 2-star hotel. During my first stay, the carpets were stained and the furniture damaged.

According to my research, some of the rooms have been updated. During this stay, I was pleased with the cleanliness of my room and we enjoyed our stay. The bathrooms are large and luxurious with a large, walk-in shower that can accommodate the entire family. There’s a bench in the shower, so if you don’t want to pay for the spa and sauna, you can sit in the shower and enjoy a spa-like experience.

My absolute favorite part of the Ocean Casino Resort’s rooms is the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. I’m a sucker for a good view and this is one thing that keeps me coming back.

Suites at the Ocean Casino Resort

The Ocean Casino Resort also has suite rooms available. Unfortunately, the only rooms available for four guests on their website are the contemporary queen room- which is a standard room with two queen beds, and the social suite with two bedrooms.

The Eclipse Indoor/Outdoor Pool at Ocean Casino Resort

The Eclipse Indoor/Outdoor Pool at the Ocean Casino Resort is the highlight of the hotel, when bringing your kids especially during the offseason.

The pool is seasonally heated and the indoor section has a rainfall function. There is a small jacuzzi outside and plenty of loungers surrounding the pool. The Grille has a small selection of food and snacks for sale, and a waitress sporadically walks around taking drink orders for the Eclipse Bar. In a corner, are a couple of pool tables. During summer, there are also cabanas and an outdoor bar.

Top Golf Swing Suite at the Ocean Casino Resort

According to their website, this is the largest Top Golf Swing Suite in America, with a bar, restaurant, and seven private swing suites.

We had the opportunity to reserve a private suite, and it was a great experience! The food was delicious and the seating comfortable. The kids had so much fun playing the different games.

I highly recommend including this as an activity if you’re visiting the Ocean Casino Resort with kids.

The District Food Court at the Ocean Casino Resort

While you won’t find any chain restaurants in this food court, you’ll find a variety of food options including salads, deli sandwiches, Asian cuisine, and burgers and fries. There’s even a taco food truck selling authentic Mexican food.

We tried most of the eateries there and the food is pretty good. It is a bit more expensive than your standard food court but they serve high-quality food in nice-sized portions.

Looking for breakfast or dessert, the District Food Court has you covered. There’s even an ice cream shop.

There are a couple of fine-dining and casual dining restaurants, including Wahlburgers, which we enjoyed during a previous visit. Unfortunately, we haven’t had the opportunity to try any of their fine-dining restaurants yet.

Check-Out at the Ocean Casino Resort

Unlike check-in, check-out was a breeze. The TV was programmed to provide your account information, so we viewed our final bill to make sure everything looked good, and pressed check-out on the TV. The hold placed on our card for incidentals, minus everything we charged to the room, was immediately released back into our account. The only thing left was to drop our room keys into the Express Check-out box in the lobby.

Our Review of the Ocean Casino Resort

The Ocean Casino Resort was always our choice when looking for a quick, inexpensive getaway close to home. Even if you have not earned free rooms yet, the rates especially during the week and off-season are extremely low compared to other hotels and resorts.

At the time of our visit, some of the rooms had still not been renovated, and some of the staff could have provided better customer service but overall, we always enjoy our stay.

There are so many food options but the food is very expensive, even for the quick service options. While the food was good, not all of it was worth the price. To cut down on the cost, you can order from a food deliver service, or head out to the boardwalk, if the weather is nice. You can also bring snacks and lunch with you. (The rooms have a fridge but no microwave.)
